How to Become a Semi Vegetarian

Posted by administrator Sunday, September 30, 2012 0 comments

More and more people are becoming health conscious and want to learn ways to lead a more healthier lifestyle, but most people don't know how to start a vegetarian lifestyle. To find out how to slowly transition into the vegetarian lifestyle start by becoming a semi vegetarian.

Step :
  1. Don’t keep meat items in your kitchen or your refrigerator. As they say, “out of sight mean out of mind”, the most effective way to stop eating the meat is by not keeping much of it at your home.
  2. When you go shopping to buy your food items, try to spend as much time in the vegetarian and healthier food sections as you can. Also, you should avoid going to the restaurants and parties where non vegetarian foods are the specialties. Try to keep yourself away from meat, and you can very well succeed in your goal.
  3. If you are planning to go a vegetarian diet, be sure to include some protein rich supplementary foods as vegetables contain much less proteins than the meat food items. You can add milk, soybean, pulses, and beans; you can also go for some protein supplements like whey protein available in the market. Nothing is more important than a good and healthy life.
  4. Try to make new and tastier vegetarian dishes from the available vegetables to keep your interest in the vegetarian and a healthy diet. There are many tasty vegetarian dishes from foreign cuisines such as Indian, Chinese, and Spanish etc.
  5. Do keep consulting your physician or dietitian when you go to follow a semi vegetarian diet as he can guide you to the best possible way of getting the full benefits of going vegetarian.
  6. Now that you have decided to turn into a semi vegetarian, you should proud of yourself for taking a big step toward your new lifestyle. For whatever reason you have chosen to become a semi vegetarian, you should not give up on your goals and persevere until you succeed.
Warnings:

Before you decide to make a lifestyle change please consult your doctor and see a good nutritionist as they will be the people to advise you the best way to carefully transition to the vegetarian lifestyle based on your current health condition.

How to Get Kids to Drink More Milk

Posted by administrator Saturday, September 29, 2012 0 comments

Sometimes kids don't like drinking milk. Here's how to change that.

Steps :

  1. Get them to at least try it. Maybe they'll like it.
  2.  If they don't like regular milk, try flavored ( chocolate, strawberry, etc.) This will show them that milk can be delicious.
  3. Have them eat some cereal. Nothing better than a good filling breakfast!
  4. Encourage them with something they like, maybe make a chart and if they drink one glass of milk every day they get a prize, chocolate etc.
  5. Possibly, get them started on milk as soon as you get off of formula or breast milk. They'll get habituated into drinking milk, and soon it'll be one of their favorite drinks, depending on your child. It works great for me.
  6. Try other types of milk, like soy milk or nut milk; it's just as healthy!
  7. Cold milk is something many kids love,if not hot milk.

Warnings :

  • Don't lie at all. Avoid anything like pouring a glass of milk and saying it's something else because the chances are your child will find out and lose trust in you.
  • Don't continue to push. Make your child try it once or twice and if they don't like it it's okay. There's other healthy drinks out there.
  • If your child often complains of stomach aches,a runny nose, watery eyes etc.DO NOT force them to drink it.Instead try almond milk or soy milk.It is just as healthy as regular milk.If that doesn't work take them to the doctor.

How to Get Children to Eat Healthy Foods

Posted by administrator Friday, September 28, 2012 1 comments

Of course, every child loves to take a bite out of a fatty hamburger and chug a bottle of root beer. However, if a child is constantly eating like this, serious health risks could become a reality. To get your child to eat healthy foods, there are certain steps you must follow.

  1. Figure out the reason why he does not want to eat fruits, vegetables, or other healthy food. He may not like the taste of them, or simply prefer to eat unhealthy foods such as fast-foods
  2. Show children what is in processed foods. If they know how much sugar and fat they are consuming, they will be less likely to want to continue eating it. Teach them to read ingredients' lists and recognize the unhealthy and disgusting components. However, if the children are very young, they may need your help explaining what all of the nutrition facts mean.
  3. Get them involved. If you force your child to eat healthy at home when they really don't want to, they aren't going to continue these healthy eating habits at school or at a friend's house. It's important to make children want to eat healthy instead of forcing it upon them.
  4. Let them pick out foods from the vegetable and fruit section. If children pick up the types of healthy foods they like to eat, then they will be more wanting to eat them. You could also try purchasing "fun" fruits and vegetables, such as a banana with a face on it or an apple with a sticker. Children actually love to eat foods that look fun and exciting.
  5. Make homemade foods with the children. Whenever you buy products from a store, they contain a lot of processed junk that makes the food extremely unhealthy. Also, when you take your child out to eat at a fast-food restaurant, they are eating a lot of hidden fat and sugar that you probably didn't even know was there. Try making your own peanut butter with the children. Not only will they be eating more healthy, but they will also get to spend quality time with you and learn a new skill.
  6. Teach them how to cook simple meals. If children learn how to cook fun foods on their own, they will be more than thrilled to eat their own creations. This can be beneficial because soon enough, your children will want to make their own food instead of begging you to take them out to a fast-food restaurant. You will save a lot of money by spending a few extra minutes to help them make a meal.
    • Children can make breaded chicken cutlets if you show them how.
    • They can make meatballs and brown them in olive oil.
    • They can make cakes and pies from scratch and enjoy doing it.
  7. Know the consequences. You may think this is time-consuming but you will be helping them live longer, so isn't it worth it? If children constantly eat unhealthy foods, they could become overweight, or even obese. They could get made fun of at school and suffer emotional impacts. No parent wants to see their child suffer, so teach children to eat right to avoid the consequences.
  8. Try preparing healthy foods different ways.
  9. If he does not like how fruits or vegetables taste, try promising him that, after he eats them, he will receive some of the food he likes too. Or, you can promise him you will let him do things he likes (playing computer, going with him outside for a walk, etc.)
TIPS
  • Try to change one thing at a time. Don't go to extremes in the child's meal right away. For example, if your kid eats a hamburger, fries, and drinks soda pop every night for supper, don't give them a salad, apple, and vitamin drink the next day. Instead, keep the hamburger and soda pop at first, and give them an apple. Don't expect a miracle in one day.
  • You can anytime try to make the healthy food more appealing. Flavor it, mix it and make it look cuter.
  • Don't try to trick your child into eating healthier.

How to Get Your Kids to Eat Food That They Don't Like

Posted by administrator Thursday, September 27, 2012 0 comments

You've begged and you've pleaded. You've cried and you've screamed. Yet, your kids still won't eat what you know is good for them? Try these tactics to assure that your children are both happy and healthy.
Steps
  1. Apologize to your children for any negative behavior regarding food on your part. For example, if you have, in the past, taken away privileges unrelated to food (for example, computer time) then this is the time to say you're sorry and you won't do this again. Food should be related to food and nothing else, unless you want to continue the battles.
  2. Create a new rule such as "If you don't finish what's for dinner, you don't get dessert." Explain this rule to your children well in advance of mealtime so they will be prepared.
  3. Plan your menus so you include some of your children's favorites so they know you do care about what they think. For example, if you know your child's favorite food is macaroni & cheese then ask him or her which vegetable from a choice of a few he or she would like with it.
  4. Involve your children in the cooking. Even if it is something as simple as turning on the cold water, it's amazing what foods kids will eat if they feel they have cooked it themselves.
  5. Refuse to battle with your children during meal times by offering an alternative vegetable such as a chopped up raw carrot with dressing. Do not, however, allow them dessert if they go for the alternative. This has the dual effect of assuring they eat healthy and that whatever they are passing up is truly disliked.
  6. Thank your children for a wonderful mealtime.
