Looking to get a flat stomach? Aside from the motivation and discipline, which can only come from within your heart and mind, I can at least give you some pointers on how to achieve that goal. What follows are some tips to doing so.

The first thing to shoot for is having a body that is lean, short on fat. This takes nutrition done sensibly and consistently, along with regular workouts. This means always doing it, and doing it the same way. No cutting corners or cheating, because you are only cheating yourself. Why would you want to do that? But, relax. You will find that after you have disciplined yourself to doing it the same way for at least three weeks, that you begin to do it as part of your regular routine, and doing so unconsciously. It will have become ingrained in your psyche. But getting past the first three weeks will make or break you. Think to yourself how badly you want to get a flat stomach.

Then you need to alter your eating habits. Fat is just the result of your body not using all the energy that enters your body through eating. What the body doesn't use, it stores as fat. So, eating your carbs before the afternoon, say twelve noon to 1 o'clock, or right before you go to workout, would be ideal. Carbs are found in foods like rice, pasta, potatoes and bread. But just don't be tempted to eat the bad carbs...you know, the McDonald's fries? Get rid of them. Go for the healthier carbs instead.

Now we get into talking about your training. Don't just do the weight lifting and cardio workouts. Mix it up with things like stairs, sprints, uphill sprinting, swimming, and maybe even rock climbing at your local gym or recreation center. This keeps things fun and mixed up, and will help you if you are the sort of person who likes to "fudge" on their workouts. Remember, get through the first three weeks without cheating on yourself and you will be that much closer to your goal.

Along the nutrition line of thought, fat can be good -- to an extent. Since our bodies crave fat, you don't have to deny it completely. Just be intelligent with your choices of what fat to eat. Go for the unsaturated fats, which are the good fats your body uses, and can be found in abundance in foods like nuts, cottage cheese and even sardines. Stay away from all those other types of fat, or you will find it sitting in your gut like an unwelcome house guest.

There is a lot more that goes into it, but if you want to get a flat stomach, then you've got to remember to be consistent, both with exercise and eating, and don't go cheating yourself out of any of it. Cutting corners here will lead to broken dreams and bigger shirt sizes to cover up your disappointment. You can get a flat stomach with discipline and by sticking to these tips.
