Small Cell Lung Cancer is second only to breast cancer in terms of deaths. There are about 175,000 reported cases of Small Cell Lung Cancer in the U.S. each year. Of these, about 160,000 will result in the death of the patient. Small Cell Lung Cancer is so deadly because it is hard to catch in time. Small Cell Lung Cancer develops in cells that are actually so small that they do not show up on normal x-rays. By the time they are found the cancer is usually already into an advanced state.
The leading cause of Small Cell Lung Cancer is smoking. Smokers run a much higher chance of contracting Small Cell Lung Cancer as compared to non-smokers. Anyone who is a smoker should see a doctor for regular examinations.
The best chance someone has if they contract Small Cell Lung Cancer is catching it early. Those who catch the cancer in the first stage of development have up to a 40% chance of survival with the correct treatment.
There are two forms of lung cancer, Small Cell Lung Cancer and Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer. Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer is the least dangerous of the two. About 50% of the lung cancer cases reported are Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer. These are treatable. Patients often see a full recovery. Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer has 5 stages of development. The recovery percentages decrease the more advanced it becomes.
Small Cell Lung Cancer only has two stages: mild and severe. When it reaches the severe state it spreads very rapidly throughout the body. This is why it is much tougher to fight. By the time Small Cell Lung Cancer is detected it is usually in the severe stage. At this point most patients only have 18-20 months to live.
While surgery plays the most important part in the treatment of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer, chemotherapy is always the chosen treatment for Small Cell Lung Cancer. In the case of limited stage SCLC, radiation therapy may also be used as the cancer is still localized to the chest area where radiation can be focused...CONTINUE

Most cancers are named after the part of the body where the cancer first begins, and kidney cancer is no exception. As kidney cancer grows, it may invade organs near the kidney. Kidney cancer begins in the kidneys two large, bean-shaped organs one located to the left, and the other to the right of the backbone. Some of the areas it affects are the liver, colon, and pancreas. Renal is the Latin word for kidney, and kidney cancer may also be referred to as renal cancer. Kidney cancer cells may also break away from the original tumor and spread (metastasize) to other parts of the body. When kidney cancer spreads, cancer cells may appear in the lymph nodes.
Causes of Kidney Cancer
The common Causes and risk factors of Kidney Cancer:
Smoking.
High blood pressure.
Obesity.
Poor diet.
Tuberous sclerosis.
Family history.
Symptoms of Kidney Cancer
Some Symptoms of Kidney Cancer:
A lump or mass in the kidney area.
Weight loss.
High blood pressure.
Side pain that does not go away.
Blood in the urine.
Loss of appetite.
Fever.
Fatigue.
Treatment of Kidney Cancer
Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill cancer cells, and is also sometimes used to relieve pain when kidney cancer has spread to the bone.
Biological therapy is a treatment that uses the body's own immune system to fight cancer.
Chemotherapy is the use of drugs to kill cancer cells.
Hormone therapy is used in a small number of patients with advanced kidney cancer to try to control the growth of cancer cells.
The whole kidney is removed along with the adrenal gland, tissue around the kidney, and, sometimes, lymph nodes in the area.

Bones form the core structure of our body. In total, there are 200 bones in a human body that support us and provide protection to our body organs. Though bone cancer is not as common as most other types of cancer, it is quite dangerous like most cancers.
Types of bone cancer
There are mainly 2 categories in which we can classify bone cancer – primary bone cancer and secondary bone cancer. When the bone cancer originates in the bone itself, it is categorised as primary bone cancer and when it spreads from a cancer elsewhere in the body it is known as secondary bone cancer. Though there are quite a few different kinds of bone cancer, the most common one is Osteosarcoma. This type of bone cancer occurs primarily in younger adults and affects knee joints the most.
Cause and symptoms of bone cancer
The exact causes of bone cancer still seem to be a matter of research and study. The symptoms of bone cancer are linked to the position of the cancer-affected bone in the body. One of the symptoms of bone cancer is incidence of swelling or tenderness or pain in the area affected by bone cancer. The formation of a lump is another indication of bone cancer. Though the detection of a bone cancer related lump is a bit difficult in the initial stages of bone cancer, the lump can sometimes be felt (due to the restriction in movement that it causes) when the bone cancer occurs at joints (e.g. knee joints). However, none of these symptoms are prominent indicators of bone cancer.
Diagnosis of bone cancer
If you experience a lump or any of the bone cancer symptoms, you must not neglect them and seek advice of a qualified doctor. Remember that early diagnosis of any type of cancer (not just bone cancer) can help in getting a cure and reducing the threat to life.
Treatment of bone cancer
Removal of bone tumour through surgical procedures is one the most common ways of treating bone cancer. Radiotherapy and chemo therapy are other ways of treating bone cancer. A combination of different techniques is sometimes used to form a more effective bone cancer treatment. The kind of treatment to be administered is dependent on the stage of bone cancer and the place of its occurrence.

Acne doesn't pick and choose when it comes to who it affects. The thing is that it does seem to choose teenagers more than anyone else. It's really unsure exactly what causes teenage acne but there are a lot of speculations when it does come to teenage acne.
For the most part we figure teens are most likely to suffer from acne because of their young hormones that are different from others at this time of life.
If you have been around a teenager and really who hasn't? Then you are quite aware of the affecting hormones in a teenager. The thing is these hormones affect more than their way of thinking but also the way they look. That brings us to what causes teenage acne.
While hormones take a lot of the acne blame there are definitely other reasons that cause teenage acne.
Just about all teenagers participate in some sort of physical activities such as sports. This is a large factor in inducing acne prone skin.
Most teens don't realize that it is very important to use the right soaps when cleaning their skin. Using the wrong soaps open the skin up to pimples and blackheads.
It really doesn't hurt to get an appointment to a dermatologist to get educated on what kinds of soaps and cleansers you should be using as a teenager. Your doctor is most schooled in what causes teenage acne so it really is in your best interest to follow their advice.
One of the biggest factors in teenage acne is an increase of oil secretions from the skin. These secretions come from all parts of the body including face, neck, back, arms, chest and the rest of the body. Because of these oils over producing the bacteria causes infections in the pores of the skin which in turn develops pimples and blackheads.
There really isn't too many great over the counter remedies to help in the secretions of these oils. Your best bet is getting your dermatologist to prescribe something that helps settle the hormones which in turn blocks many of the factors in what causes teenage acne.
It is best to try and catch and work on the problem before it becomes a bigger problem. This will help to ensure clean and blemish free skin as a teenager.
Tim has been a sufferer of acne for over 25 years and certainly remembers his teenage years as being his worst. He works very hard to help with acne relief in everyone and especially does a lot of research into what causes acne in teenagers.
He has made it a special project to help others with acne. Visiting his website is a must to find all kinds of info all related to acne.

Tooth Whitening is one of the gifts of modern health care. It came as a revolutionary treatment that could convert dark embarrassing smiles in to pleasant adorable ones. Looking back to the advent of tooth whitening, it can be viewed as a major milestone for cosmetic dentistry. But wait! We are not here to discuss the history of tooth whitening. You have, I estimate, landed on this article to check out the advantages and disadvantages of tooth whitening so that you can determine whether it is safe for you to go for tooth whitening.
Before I pour you with advantages and disadvantages of different tooth whitening systems, it might be worthwhile to understand how the concept of tooth whitening works. So what's the magic chemical that is in the various tooth whitening agents that make the teeth whiter. Most tooth whitening agents that show good results have a bleaching agent commonly hydrogen peroxide or sometimes carbamide peroxide. This bleaching agent (oxidizing agent) simply bleaches the teeth which makes them look whiter. So what is bleached actually? Technically speaking, the bleaching agent penetrates the teeth in to enamel and dentin and bleaches (oxidizes) the stain deposits thus making the teeth look whiter.
Now moving on to the advantages and disadvantages of tooth whitening, I will outline the pros and cons of different kinds of tooth whitening systems. This is because, each whitening system has its own share of advantages and disadvantages and it's impossible to list them generally as a whole.

If a person has a yellow set of unhealthy looking teeth, it will make the smile look awful. At times, one can also suffer from low self esteem as well as self confidence due to deformed teeth. Many times teeth get deformed due to calcium deficiency, accidents, or poor care of your mouth.

An assortment of materials can be used to construct braces nowadays. In fact with modern engineering and cosmetic dentistry, present generation has the advantage of sophisticated techniques for orthodontic treatment which is also more efficient as well as less painful. Modern cosmetic dentistry has come a long way.
Ceramic braces are relatively new in the market but are much more comfortable when compared to the metal wires and brackets, but standard metallic braces are still very much available in the market. There is a new style in braces, which are the clear braces, which are custom designed braces and cannot be seen and you can wear them without people knowing that you wear braces. It is known as Invisalign and these clear braces are much in use by youngsters as well as adults who don't feel very comfortable wearing the traditional metal or ceramic braces.

A lot what you've probably been taught about the basic food groups is just plain wrong. That's particularly true for diabetics who go on diets to control their blood sugars. For lowering blood glucose levels, diet is essential, but just because you have to limit your carbs doesn't mean you can gorge your proteins.
A fundamental fact about food and pharmacology is that it is impossible to predict exactly how any single individual will react to a given food or medication.
The foods we eat, if you do not consider water, micronutrients, and indigestible fibers and proteins, can be considered in terms of the categories of macronutrients: carbohydrate, protein, and fat. Labeling food in terms of carbs, protein, and fat is, of course, an oversimplification, but it is a good place to start. Nutritionists talk about carbs, protein, and fat in terms of calories, because the body can burn all three.
The body constructs proteins from building blocks known as amino acids. Digestion breaks down protein into its amino acid components, and the body reassembles amino acids into proteins that make muscle, vital organs, and nerves, as well as enzymes, hormones, and neurotransmitters.
Most diabetics are not aware that protein is the body's second most important source of blood sugar. The body slowly transforms up to 36 per cent of protein into glucose, if blood sugar levels fall too low, if the body does not make enough insulin, or if so much protein has been eaten the body's other amino acid needs have been met. If you eat a 3-1/2 oz (100 gram) hamburger patty without a bun and no other carbohydrates, for example, your liver will slowly transform some of the protein in the burger into about 7 grams of glucose. The body cannot transform carbohydrate or fat into protein.
Turning protein into glucose releases phosphate, and the only way the body can expel excess phosphate is with the help of calcium. The body needs about 1500 milligrams of calcium for every pound (454 grams) of protein consumed. If the body does not get calcium from the diet, it will take calcium from the bones.
So, what's the bottom line of this discussion for diabetics? Two things: One, protein can raise your blood sugars, too. Two, to use protein without carbs (when you are on a low-carb diet), your body needs plenty of calcium. A little calcium-rich food (dairy, dark greens, cold water fish) or a calcium supplement (450 mg being all your body can absorb) 2 or 3 times a day is essential to the long-term success of any diabetic's low-carb diet.

Mashed potatoes are the downfall of many diabetic' diets. But even if you just have to have your spuds, there are ways to lower their impact on blood sugar control (if you don't eat the whole bowl).
No sensible diet plan for diabetics recommends mashed potato as more than an occasional treat planned to be eaten before exercise. Although a good dollop of butter and cream can lower this vegetable's effective glycemic index from 108 (instant potato's glycemic index relative to bread) to 50 or so, the more fat you add to this starchy tuber, the longer you need to eat them before your stomach signals it's full.http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Robert_Rister
Any diabetic can (and many diabetics do) raise blood sugars by eating too many carrots. Anything that makes you eat more mash is going to raise blood glucose levels sooner or later. In case you really want to use a glycemic index approach to eating potatoes, here is an essential hint:
Hot potato has a higher glycemic index, that is their sugars are released more quickly, than cold potatoes. Red Russets served piping hot have a glycemic index of 89, but if they're eaten cold, they have a glycemic index of 56.
Essentially your stomach has to warm up your mashed potatoes before they are digested, and that slows down the release of sugars. That doesn't mean the sugars aren't eventually released, and that's why diabetics need generally to avoid this dish. There is a way to get the same taste and feel as mashed potatoes, however, from artful preparation of cauliflower.

The HIV virus is of two types, HIV1 and HIV2. When worldwide, people generally talk of HIV they refer to HIV1. The relatively uncommon HIV2 is concentrated in West Africa and is rarely found anywhere else. Although there is slight difference there is no cure for the HIV1 and HIV 2 and AIDS.
If we talk of similarities they are as follows-
• Both the viruses are transmitted in a similar manner.
• They are transmitted by sexual contact, through body fluids such as blood, tears and vaginal fluids.
• It is also transmitted through breast milk from a mother to the child.
• Within three to six months both HIV-1 and HIV-2 cause the body to produce antibodies.
• Both HIV1 and HIV2 can develop into AIDS.
When we talk about Differences they are as follows-
• The persons who are infected with HIV2 develop immunodeficiency or a weak immune system more slowly and it is also milder.
• People who are infected with HIV2 virus are less infectious in the early stages than those infected with HIV1.
• It has been said that HIV-2 is less easily transmitted.
• The period between the initial infection and illness is longer in case of HIV-2
• As the virus progresses the infection of HIV2 increases.
• Compared to HIV-1 mostly it is the HIV-2 that seems to be more infectious later in the course of the disease.
• Mostly the cases of HIV-2 are reported in West Africa whereas the cases of HIV-1 are found worldwide.
Subtypes of HIV-1
The HIV-1 is classified into three groups. The “major” group that is M, the group M again has subtypes A, B, C, D, F, G, H, J and K, the “outlier” group O and the third is the “new” group N. It has been found out that more than 90% of the people with HIV-1 infection belong to the group M. Group N is extremely rare and group O is restricted to west-central Africa.
The treatment of HIV-1 and HIV-2
HIV-2 is more difficult to monitor than HIV-1 and the studies are still not clear towards the best treatment of HIV-2. There are some drugs that are used for treatment of HIV-1 but are not effective against HIV-2. Both the virus lead to the threatening disease AIDS.

AIDS. The very sound of the word scares some, and makes other cringe. How did we let it get so far? There is no cure for very few diseases, and aids is one of them. Yet we still have unprotected sex, and we still share dirty needles. Come on! Granted, HIV/AIDS will never be a thing of the past, but we can do better in making the condition less common.
HIV/AIDS kills. In 2004, it was responsible for 3.5 million deaths globally. Thats not even the worst of it. 6.4 million people newly contracted the virus in the same year! Instead of diminishing the deadly condition, we are multiplying it. This needs to stop. It's as if 3.5 million wasn't enough dead in 2004, so we decided to boost the numbers for 2005. What are we thinking?!
Mothers can share AIDS with their infants during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding, and there is no way to stop it short of not becoming pregnant. But here is the list of preventable HIV/AIDS transmissions:
- Penetrative oral, vaginal, or anal sex (Unprotected)
- Blood transfusion
- In health care settings
- Drug injection
So if these ways are all preventable, why is HIV/AIDS still such a major problem?
The human race needs to wise up, stop sharing needles, screen blood transfusions, and USE CONDOMS. Let's beat AIDS before it beats us.

I would like to make it clear that AIDS begins by a HIV infection. When people are infected with HIV, they do not have any symptoms for many years. (could take 10 years or more)
During that period, HIV develops to become AIDS, and infected people can transmit the virus to others. This is the most dangerous point about AIDS or HIV.
Because a HIV-infected person may seem well-looking, while he is actively transmitting virus to other people.
If HIV is not treated or detected, it will rapidly develop and the infected immune system will weaken, at the latest stage it is called AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome).
Symptoms of AIDS
As I said, symptoms will only occur if HIV is developed into AIDS and the symptoms of AIDS are a result of series of infections called opportunistic infections that do not normally develop in humans with healthy immune.
Why they are called opportunistic infections? Because they do not happen to people with healthy immune. But since AIDS destroys the immune system, they will occur in infected people.
What are common symptoms with AIDS infected people?
They are fevers, sweats, weakness, weight loss, and a series of "rare" infections and cancers.
I will probably discuss these infections later in detail. But I just wanted to make it clear to you about the difference between AIDS and HIV, and when exactly symptoms occur.
In a later stage, aids causes rare cancers, that normally won't affect a healthy immune. Eventually, the patient dies after one of these opportunistic infections.

It is a common fad among people that they can contract AIDS by any of the ways they are aware of, but the fact is that one can never get affected by AIDS directly. Usually, it is the HIV virus that reduces and kills the body immune system, and it is a gradual process through which one can acquire AIDS.
This disease is not caused due to any deficiency in the body like other diseases. It can only be 'contracted' through external agents. Usually, it is contracted if there is direct contact of body fluid with the affected person. The body fluid can include blood or sex fluid. Tears and saliva exchange might not be as harmful.
The causes for HIV and hence AIDS are:
1. Having intercourse with an infected person.
2. Sharing needle with someone who is infected.
3. From an HIV infected mother to child.
4. Breast feed by an HIV infected lady.
5. Blood transfusion from an HIV infected person.
6. Any way if the blood from an HIV infected person enters the body (example kissing an HIV/AIDS infected person who's gums bleed).
However, AIDS or HIV is not spread by tears and saliva, though oral sex might lead to it. There are certain cases where oral sex might or might not lead to it, but still precaution is always better than cure, especially when there is no cure!
Medical experts claim that without any medication and HIV positive person (with a healthy balanced diet) might take up to ten years to get AIDS.

It is three decades since the discovery of the HIV virus but we are still lacking information about HIV / AIDS. According to UN AIDS estimates, there are now 33.2 million people living with HIV, including 2.5 million children. Although there is no foolproof cure or vaccine for HIV virus, the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) will ensure that medicines are available at an affordable cost even in third world countries. The search for the vaccine for AIDS remains the challenge for the world today.
Let us delve into some more information about HIV /AIDS. What is causing the spread of the infection? Ignorance. One in three youngsters in the world are still ignorant about how the infection spreads. We have to wake up to the harsh reality of the epidemic and the world's leaders must demonstrate real commitment to keep their promise. We cannot wait another quarter of a century for a vaccine. The need of the hour is the four Ms-motivation, money, medicines and manpower.
Let me burst the bubble on some common myths about HIV /AIDS.
Blood donation can cause HIV infection. People today are afraid of donating blood. HIV does not spread through donation of blood, as hospitals and blood banks use disposable syringes. Another myth is that HIV / AIDS spreads through mosquito and bug bites, air, saliva and touch. It is a very important piece of information about HIV / AIDS that it is not spread through mosquito and bug bites, air, saliva and touch.
Promiscuous men and women have largely been held responsible for fuelling the HIV /AIDS epidemic in the world. Stigma towards HIV-positive people needs to be countered if the threat of HIV /AIDS is to be overcome. Stigma is hard to track and its impact even harder to measure. Those vulnerable to and experiencing social stigma and discrimination will be puzzled if they were told that awareness and knowledge about HIV/AIDS is higher than before.Awareness is not translating into tolerance or a shedding of stigma. The good information about HIV / AIDS is that the number of people contracting HIV infection is dropping worldwide.
Protection against HIV/AIDS and preventing its spread is certainly a key message, but protection using stigma and alienation will go nowhere. It is always challenging to fight for legislation and better policy outcomes. Certain states have law against discrimination of HIV-positive children in schools. But laws and policies cannot be substitutes for a humane approach.

You must figure out whether your snoring problem is what is referred to as primary snoring or Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), a much more serious condition, before you will be able to do anything to treat it. Take a few moments to learn a little more about snoring so that you will be more prepared to handle it properly.
When your breathing is blocked at night while you sleep, snoring is the result. Obstructive sleep apnea happens when your air passage becomes so blocked that you are unable to breathe for upwards of ten seconds. Primary snoring is less dangerous and occurs when the tissues in your mouth and throat make noise while trying to breathe in.
The causes of snoring differ in each individual case. They may include a deviated septum, being overweight, consuming alcohol, antihistamines, sleeping pills, and some allergies. Although your family will probably suffer, primary snoring is not dangerous for your health.
Often, spouses feel the bad effects of snoring more than the snorer himself. Spousal Arousal Syndrome is the name for the lack of sleep and restlessness that many spouses experience because of sleeping in a bed with someone who snore so heavily that their significant other is woken up constantly throughout the night. This syndrome brings about stress, irritability, and a state of being overly accident prone.
OSA, as opposed to primary snoring, can have serious health consequences. OSA stops people from breathing during sleep, leaving them to wake up sweaty, gasping for air. Sleep apnea episodes of this nature often result in sore throats and headaches.
An individual with OSA will have a hard time getting the quality sleep they need and will thus seem irritable and distracted throughout the day. That takes a serious toll on your life at work and in private.
Untreated OSA can eventually cause you to be at a much higher risk of developing high blood pressure, having a stroke, or experiencing a heart attack.
If you know you have a problem snoring and you think that the symptoms of OSA match your situation, speaking with a doctor and getting their professional advice would be in your best interests.
Snoring is just one of several sleep apnea symptoms. Learn more about some of the other warning signs of a sleep apnea problem on the Apnea Guide website. Visit http://www.apneaguide.com for more information about how to know if your snoring is a symptom of something more serious.

Your eyes are marvelous organs. Knowing how to care for your eyes can help to prevent cataracts, a clouding of the lens in your eyes that comes with aging. The best care you can give to your eyes is by helping your body to produce more of its master antioxidant Glutathione.
One study from the Journal of Ocular Pharmacology and Therapeutics showed that the cornea, lens, and retina area of the eye are especially sensitive to loss of antioxidant Glutathione, GSH.
Glutathione is your body's master antioxidant. All cells in our bodies use Glutathione.
Your eyes get exposed to a lot of oxidative stress and damage from UV radiation of sunlight. Glutathione is used directly by the lens of your eyes to deal with this daily stress.
Let's look at some major parts and functions of our eyes. Then let us see how the Antioxidant Glutathione can be the best nutrition for your eye health care.
Major parts and functions of the eye:
Your eye is like a very advanced camera. The function of eyes is to enable us to see things clearly at various distances and under various light conditions.
Different parts of your eyes work together in a complex way to achieve this important function. The following components of your eyes are especially susceptible to oxidative damage from sunlight.
1. Cornea
The cornea is the transparent front part of eye that covers the iris and pupil. The cornea passes light into the eye and helps your eye to focus.
2. Iris
The iris is the colored part of your eye. By making pupil larger or smaller, the iris helps to control the amount of light that enters the eye.
3. Pupil
The pupil is the dark opening in the middle of the iris. By changing size in response to the amount of light present, the pupil controls the amount of light that enters your eye.
4. Lens
The lens is the transparent part behind the iris. It helps focus light rays onto the retina.
5. Retina
The retina is the light sensitive, inner nerve layer of your eye. The retina is made up of light-sensitive cells known as cones and rods. These cells convert light into nerve signals, which are passed to your brain.
6. Macula
The macula is an oval yellow area in the retina. Macula contains the highest concentration of the special light sensitive cells called cones. The macula enables us to see small, fine details clearly.
Antioxidant Glutathione for Eye Health:
An article "Glutathione: A Vital Lens Antioxidant" from the Journal of Ocular Pharmacology and Therapeutics show that Glutathione (GSH) exists in an unusually high concentration in the lenses of our eyes.
GSH plays a vital role in maintaining the lens tissues' transparency. Glutathione detoxifies the potentially damaging oxidants with which our eyes come into contact.
The study also shows that the level of GSH in the nucleus of the lens is particularly low for older people. If preventive eye care is not taken, prolonged oxidizing damage can lead to cataracts.
If you are older than 20 years old, your body starts to produce less Antioxidant Glutathione each year as you age.
It's very important to consider an effective supplement to improve your Glutathione level for your eye health. [Unfortunately, the majority of the Glutathione supplements on the market are not effective.]
I encourage you to learn more about Glutathione and the many benefits and roles this multiple-purpose antioxidant plays for your eye health and other health areas.
You will come to appreciate how important Gluathione is for your eye health care.
Antioxidant Vitamin E, Vitamin C, and Alpha lipoic acid for Eye Health:
In the November 2006 issue of Breakthroughs in Health magazine, an article "Antioxidants May Prevent Vision Loss" mentions an eye health study done by scientists at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
They found that antioxidant vitamin E, vitamin C, and alpha lipoic acid are effective in fighting against age-related retinal and macular degeneration.
In that eye health study, Dr. Campochiaro says, "What's clear is the link between oxygen and photoreceptor damage, as well as the potential of antioxidant treatment."
Look for supplements that contain Antioxidant vitamin C and Antioxidant alpha lipoic acid. Along with other essential nutrients, vitamin C and alpha lipoic acid can work synergistically to help your body improve your Glutathione level for eye health.
